The Greater Roadrunner is famous for its speed, capable of running up to 20 mph to catch prey including rattlesnakes, lizards, and scorpions. Despite being a member of the cuckoo family, it rarely flies and prefers to sprint across open desert terrain.  They are also known to sunbathe in the morning, spreading their wings to warm up after cold desert nights.
