The Amazon Kingfisher is the largest kingfisher in the Americas, found along rivers, lakes, and streams from Mexico through South America. Males sport a rich chestnut breast band against deep green plumage, making them one of the most striking birds of the Neotropics. Like all kingfishers, they are expert hunters, diving from a perch to snatch fish with precision. They are closely related to the Belted Kingfisher of North America but are noticeably larger and more vividly colored.
